Celebrating the Autumnal Equinox: Welcome to Fall’s Colorful Splendor …
A Fiery Sugar Maple Welcomes Autumn on My Country Road (Acer saccharum)
At last, Autumn has arrived, and she’s just beginning to unpack her suitcase of fall finery. Already, her musky perfume fills the air; swirling in a fine, foggy mist throughout the valley. There are so many things to look forward to at this time of year: apple picking at the orchard, hot mulled cider, sangria and spicy cocktails by the bonfire, and starlit evenings spent with friends …

Of course, here in Vermont, the best part of autumn is hiking through the vibrant fall forests, and strolling through colorful late-season gardens. I just can’t get enough of the brilliant beauty of this wonderful time of the year…

What contrast in the gloaming.
Candles’ light on stone reflect Rudbeckia’s golden glow.
Black-Eyed-Susan torches, warming ancient stone.
Glowing fire

It IS all about light in Autumn, isn’t it? Everything seems to mysteriously glow from within, even on the darkest of days, when viewed against a rain-dampened background of ancient bark. Ah,hh, isn’t it just SO Charlotte Bronte? Happy Equinox! xo Deb
P.S. On “Candlelight and September Sangria” Very cool candles… were they built “upside-down”? ; )
Hi Deb – Thank you for the lyrical response to the photo essay! Yes, it is all about the light. Very, very Wuthering Heights!
The candles (a gift from my folks) were once literally pear shaped (complete with leaf detailing) but after a few evenings, they became narrow topped saucers.
Happy Equinox to you as well! xo M
